With a focus on Dansk Affald core business on sorting and sale of recyclable waste resources, in 2012 the company looked into the handling of organic household waste as a new business area.
With this project, there was a desire to examine what could be the optimal future service / scheme for citizens household waste, to collect, handle and recycle as close to the home as possible. As part of these considerations, in consultation with Vejen Municipality we decided to conduct an experiment in the area of Holsted city (in Vejen) during nov2012 to feb2013.
300 households in Holsted was chosen because of their location close to project participant. The company Billund Vand A/S handling about 30% of Billund Municipality waste as organic waste. The company KomTek Environment A/S (today Gemidan) that also develops the techniques of organic waste management, with larger amounts of other material to be sorted. And the company NC Miljø (today Ragnsells) with a sorting plant in Nyborg.
Unlike other previous projects, this was a practical test in an delimited area where households had already been introduced to Duoflex system and the citizens therefore were used to the separation system with two chamber bins.
